Dose Market Planning A Tasty Sunday

More than two dozen artisans and producers will pack the 1st Ward space in the back of Chop Shop this Sunday, for what is shaping up to be a pretty tasty market. I happened to attend Dose a few weeks ago. But since they don’t tell you out front what the theme is (unless you’ve already gone online ahead of time), random visitors who happened to be strolling by – like me –  paid $5 to enter and were probably less-than-thrilled, as I was, to see tons of baby clothes and other kiddie-related stuff (food options were limited to coffee, candy and some meatballs from Chop Shop). But they’ve turned things around this Sunday, considerably.

One of the major debuts: G & C Pantry Co. selling their line of dry goods and pantry essentials for the contemporary kitchen. A collaboration between Johnny Auer, Mark Steuer (Carriage House) and Sean Spradling, retail offerings include G & C’s Sweet Potato Hot Sauce, Smoked Jalapeño Hot Sauce and Kitchen Brine (hello Thanksgiving turkey); they’ll also be offering samples and selling some prepared food like cold fried chicken and cornbread.

As always, a free drink will greet Dose-goers; this Sunday it’s Next Star Vodka, that Chicago-proud, perfectly distilled spirit, stirring up ‘A Happy Holiday’ cocktail made with Next Star Vodka, cranberry juice, apple cider, cinnamon simple syrup and a squirt of lime.

Some other highlights: artisan cheeses; Katherine Anne Confections’ truffles, caramels, marshmallows and European-style sipping chocolate; Liquid Gold Olive Oil’s first press, extra virgin 100% Montenegrin olive oil; Bolzano Artisan Meats is driving down from Milwaukee to serve up handcrafted heirloom pork salamis; Tartella brings the must-have kitchen linens, recipe cards for sharing and holiday gift items; Karl’s Kraft Soup will have ready-to-eat and take-home soups; Matador Sharpening sharpens Dose-goer knives on the spot and Pleasant House Bakery dishes out their royal pies alongside Dark Matter Coffee’s freshest roast.
